A self-guided field trip with a hands-on twist. A field trip to SciTech is appropriate for any age group.

When you choose the Explore and Learn Field Trip, your group will enjoy:

Explore & Learn Field Trip Cost

Groups of fewer than 15 students: $7 each
Groups of 15 or more students:
$6 each with one free adult for each 8 students. Teachers are included in this ratio of free adults. Additional adults are welcome for $6 each.

Science Demos

Add an exciting 30-minute science presentation to your field trip. Choose from: Curious about Chemistry, Fun with Physics, Awesome Weather, Fun with Favorites, Dino Demo. FEE: $80.00 per show. Shows are limited to a maximum of 65 people.
Focused Field Trips

A 30-minute demonstration followed by a 30-minute hands-on laboratory session, and time to explore our 200 interactive science exhibits.

SciTech incorporates the Illinois Learning Standards (referenced in the table below) in our informal classroom environment.

Discovering Dinosaurs (ILS 1B, 4C, 5A, 5B, 5D, 5F) Learn what a dinosaur is, how they lived and why the non-avian varieties went extinct. Experience the methods paleontologists use to gather, document and interpret dinosaur fossils.

Insects (ILS 11A &13A) What is an insect? Discover the biological structure of insects through construction of an insect body (grades K-2) or dissection of a grasshopper (grades 3-5th). (There is an additional charge for the dissection) X X   X

Groups of fewer than 20 students: $160 flat fee
Groups of 20 to 65 students*: $8 each with one free adult for each 8 students. Teachers are included in this ratio of free adults. Additional adults are welcome for $8 each.

Please note that the classroom can accomodate 25 students per session. Larger groups will require
more than one session.

  • Date and time preferred, plus an alternative date
Field trips are available Monday through Friday between 10 am and 5 pm (some restrictions on Winter Mondays.) Reservations are requested at least 6 weeks in advance . A non-refundable deposit of 50% is due at time of registration, with the balance due 2 weeks prior to the program. Fees will be based on the number of students and adults booked, no refunds can be given for fewer students attending.
PLEASE UNDERESTIMATE THE SIZE OF YOUR GROUP as payment due cannot be
reduced for fewer students or adults attending.

Underestimating the size of your group will allow easier completion of payment when you arrive at SciTech. Additional students and/or chaperones will be charged at that time.
